Mrs. Buhler's Class

So my sister is a fourth grade teacher. Weird, I know. But I finally had the chance to help out in her classroom yesterday and it was so much fun! This "helping" consisted of eating hotdogs, teaching them how to play Danish Ball, eating snow cones, and passing out cookies (don't worry this was only because it's their last week of school). I had a lot of fun and it was so cool to be able to see Caitlyn as a teacher!  It definitely put Caitlyn's job more into perspective for me though.  That job is a heck of a lot of work. All the decorations, planning, grading, parent drama, keeping kids in order. Was I that little when I was in fourth grade? No way. And did everyone really talk that much?  It blew my mind! Each student was so awesome, but I don't think it matters if you have 30 of the most perfect 10-year-olds--one of them is bound to call out/complain/jump out of their seat at any given time.  Moral of the story is, Cait is amazing. I don't know how the heck she kept order in that crazy classroom eight hours a day, every school day, for nine months. Here are some pictures!
Everyone outside waiting for their hotdogs. The cute little boy in the back wasn't in Cait's classroom, and she had to tell the poor little guy that the hotdogs weren't for his class. Haha he was so sad.

Playing Danish Ball.

Working on their yearbooks that Cait put together for them.

Mrs. Buhler (with her baby bump ;)) teaching.

I had thought for a time about applying for Teach for America.  Basically as long as you have a degree, you can do it. For two years, you have the chance to teach in underprivileged elementary schools.  However, after spending a couple of hours in a fourth grade classroom for the first time since I was one of the fourth graders, I realized maybe it's not for me.  I have been thinking for a while though about being some type of school counselor, and because of one of the students in Cait's class, I realized that I would absolutely love it.  With a major like sociology, you can't do a whole lot with just a Bachelor's degree.  It's not a major that directs you right into one field either.  You can go in so many different directions with it, but the catch is--you need your master's degree! Oh tricky, tricky school system. So I guess we'll see what happens, but i hope to one day be able to help the children who are struggling in school--whether they be in fourth grade or eleventh. I know that's something I would love to do, I just don't know when I'll be able to do it :)

Last weekend we went to the BYU vs. Cal Berkeley Rugby National Championship game up in Salt Lake. BYU ended up losing, but it was fun and so good to see family there!

Also, I find this video very funny. Look at him go! He's just so blubbery.

My Funny Husband :)

For some reason, whenever I'm eating something and I think it's really good, I want someone else to try it. Maybe for reassurance? Not sure. But I tend to do this with Danny a lot, and most of the time, he has no desire to even try it. He usually claims he doesn't like the thing I'm offering him, and I usually make him try it anyway.  So I do this all the time, and can I just say, the only thing I've ever made him eat that he didn't like was a banana! For some reason the boy just hates bananas. Anyway, here's a perfect example: last semester I made him try my key lime pie yogurt because he said he hated yogurt.  He said he didn't like normal yogurt or frozen yogurt--he said he didn't like any of it and that he never has. Well, here he is now with his giant sized yogurt that he was so excited to get yesterday.
Haha, what a funny boy.

Also, Utah decided to be spring for about a week! It was so beautiful outside and it was so fun to be outside and to take advantage of the nice weather. However, Provo is back to looking like this for the next week:
Boo.

Nothingness

So I've always looked at people's blogs and thought, gosh darn't why don't you update! Now I totally understand! It's kinda like, well, I haven't done anything too special, and does anyone even read this to care when I do do something special?. Oh well--nothing special has happened and I'm going to write anyway!

Married life has been wonderful so far.  I'm sure the fact that it's summertime and we're out of classes for four months is enhancing that, but not having to coordinate whose apartment to go to has been so nice! We don't have any roommates who are just gonna walk in, Danny doesn't have to drop me off every night, we can have dinner together--it's just so nice!

We're both just working right now--I'm working at Helaman still, and Danny is working at both the MTC and Scottrade.  He has to wake up at 4:00am at least three times a week and works at Scottrade until 5:00pm every day.  I don't know how he does it, but he hasn't complained a single time about having to wake up so early! People keep telling me I was brave to marry a Wihongi, especially with my first name being so tricky, but hey--I think it was worth it ;)

Pictures!

So, as promised, here are some pictures! We haven't gotten the pictures back from the photographer at our reception, but here are some at the temple and some that we took at Valley Gardens the day before. There were so many colors out it was gorgeous! And believe it or not, it was freezing!
This was everyone who came down to D.C. :)

Here are some from our honeymoon... Wrightsville Beach, NC is definitely a favorite now! It was so low key, and had a lot of cool areas.  Plus it was so green I loved it! It was so nice to just have time to relax and spend time together.  We successfully slept in, went to the beach, and ate out every day :)

Driving down I95 and it's greenness is so much different than driving down I15!

This was my favorite spot we found on the beach. The tide came up really far, and the beach was really flat so we could walk out so far and the deepest it would go was to our knees

Danny, unlike me, actually dared to go swim in April's ice cold Atlantic Ocean...

Oh, how I miss the beach already :(

We went into the city of Wilmington (that still weirds me out) and they had a bunch of ships you could look at so we checked those out for a bit. They were pretty cool-the battle ships looked huge!

We played on the lifeguard stand for a bit one evening before a storm came.

Between the beach and all of the beach houses there were all of these cool sand dunes with wild grass growing. So of course, I wanted a picture on one of them.

Somehow, whenever Danny and I go on road trips, we get caught in storms.  Every time we've been down to St. George in the past year it has snowed on us.  When we went down to California for Thanksgiving we got caught in a blizzard (literally) both ways.  So of course, on our way back from North Carolina there are constant tornado warnings.  Luckily, we made it out just in time.

Oh yeah, and did I mention there was a Rita's Water Ice across the street from our hotel? Literally right across the street, so of course we got Rita's every single day. So yummy!

I did it!

I made a blog. I've been thinking about it for a while, and getting married last week just gave me the motivation for it.

Anyway, Danny and I got married last Saturday, April 23, and it was amazing!  After a year of dating and seven months of being engaged, we were definitely ready to finally be married.  With the help of everyone who was there, it turned out perfect! Danny's entire family (eight kids included) were able to come out, as well as my entire family.  The week before was definitely busy, but it was so good to be with so much family after such a long and stressful semester.  Even though the weather called for thunderstorms all day, we got lucky and had sun and 70s during the reception!

After the wedding, Danny and I went down to North Carolina for a much needed break from life.  The beach was beautiful down there! Even Danny admitted that maybe California beaches aren't the only good ones around ;)

We got back to Utah on Friday, moved into our apartment Friday night, and then had our second reception in Utah Saturday night.  It turned out to be so much fun! We did a lot of cultural things, including the Haka being performed (which may or may not have beat out the Haka we attempted in Delaware). So many people were able to make it to that reception--apparently people were having a hard time finding parking as the entire parking lot and street were filled--and it was so good to see everyone that made it!

Now we are both adjusting to real life again. Except this summer we get to subtract school, wedding plans, and the stresses of being engaged from our schedules! Hallelujah!  Anyway, married life is awesome, and we're now just looking forward to a fun and pretty stress-free summer :) I'll post pictures soon!
